Oh deer, the decorations are done ...

I have shared my love of deer  in decorating-with-antlers & faux-antlers. This year antlers seem to be everywhere again - seems I was ahead of the trend or perhaps I just set the trend ....

Last year we had a a-pure-simple-christmas-tree to reflect a difficult family year. Christmas will always be a poignant time for me but it is important to concentrate on those who are left, not those whom we have lost!

My tree lights once again refused to work so I browsed local shops then decided on berry lights as I had a set which could go on the fireplace garland to co-ordinate the two displays in the lounge.

My motto is always that things 'chosen with the same eye' will go together as they will have a common thread that binds them; they reflect who you are.

My varied style conforms to the definition of eclectic

adjective
1. selecting or choosing from various sources.
2. made up of what is selected from different sources.
3. not following any one system, as of philosophy, medicine, etc., but selecting and using what are considered the best elements of all systems.
4. noting or pertaining to works of architecture, decoration, landscaping, etc., produced by a certain person or during a certain period, that derive from a wide range of historic styles, the style in each instance often being chosen for its fancied appropriateness to local tradition, local geography, the purpose to be served, or the cultural background of the client.

I have been buying random deer decorations - my eclectic side enjoying the variety of colours, textures & styles.

I found some simple calico deer & stockings at a local craft shop. I love their simplicity & earthiness so I bought several. When I went back to add a few more, the owner asked how I was customising them. I replied that I had sewn small silver charms on some, but they were essentially rustic - Scandanavian simplicity which complements the brighter ones.

I love the wooden decorations because they add depth & texture with their design.

I used several natural calico stockings from the craft shop too to finish off the bottom branches as they draw the eye down the tree to the soft fabric that hides the stand.

I am pleased with the decorations again this year, especially as it is unique to us.

Is your tree done? Do you make changes to your tree each year or decide on a theme?
