A lazy Bank Holiday breakfast

Birthday tea ....
Eldest daughter a wondering star celebrated her birthday this week & so, being home for the weekend, we had some family friends over for tea & cake & a catch up for her.
This was our little Sunday afternoon spread ...
I made our South African special - milk tart (melk tert)
and a good friend rambling-rosez did some baking too ....
a gorgeous carrot cake with cream cheese frosting ....
and a stunning vegetable quiche
while I did a classic Victoria Sponge
with traditional tea ....
with a collection of quirky cake forks
of course the paparazzi were out in force ....
and a good time was had by all. Happy birthday my dear ♥

A little bit of heaven ....
Sometimes we all need something to just lift the spirits - a little bit of something special.
The rain this past week has restricted walks & time out so today it was time for a treat, and what better treat than a special cupcake queeniescupcakery from the gorgeous vintage shop at Ironbridge.
The rising River Severn can be seen through the window but the atmosphere inside was, as always, warm & cosy. It is simply just a lovely place to take life a little slower, to savour something special & to catch up ...

Spring rains in the Shire
April has brought more than just April showers this year. The showers arrived, much awaited after a dry start to the year & the rain has just kept falling ....
I do not mind rain - it washes away all the dust, freshens up the garden, replenishes our water supplies & just brings everything to life with renewed brightness & vigour
The tulip bulbs I planted last Autumn are just so beautiful - their bright colours just lift any day in my garden. Our garden shed at the bottom of the garden looks just lovely now ...
The rain has kept falling, steady rain, day in & day out; sometimes accompanied by thunder & lightning which is not very common in the UK.
It is a real pleasure to throw open the connecting doors to the conservatory so that the sound of the rain can be heard in the house ...
The Severn River is the longest river in England & it flows under the Ironbridge - the iconic 1779 bridge which was the first Ironbridge built in the world & which sparked the Industrial Revolution.
It no longer carries traffic as modern vehicles are too heavy but it still attracts visitors from all over the world to its iconic design.
The lower parts are hidden under the rising water. The portable flood defences will most likely go up this week to protect warfage shops from the rising water ....

... in search of bluebells
We are blessed with beautiful rural places in our lovely Shire & we love nothing more than exploring them in various seasons.
It is humbling to walk in the same woods that have been used for centuries; I wonder what tales these woods could tell ....
The bluebells were there but not in great numbers but a good morning was had ....

Our choice was the lovely woods above Ironbridge; the bridge has stood since 1779 as the first Ironbridge ever constructed in the world when local engineers discovered how to cast iron to make structures strong enough to be used and that sparked the legendary Industrial Revolution that spread worldwide ..
The bluebells are just coming out in the woods but the heavy rain means that they are just not as bountiful as some years. Never the less, we set out on a dull Spring day to find some & to just enjoy the fresh air, & what fresh air it was.....
