Royal wedding watch party time ...

I can hardly believe that the much awaited Royal Wedding is almost upon us.  We British do love a good party

We had a wedding watch party for Kate & William . We had several friends for the day to watch the wedding then we had a bbq in the garden afterwards.

This time it is much quieter after a rather hectic time work wise for myself & friends so it is just a few of us but I got the bunting out for the fireplace again.  I love the vintage feel to this bunting - the balloons are from a family birthday this week but they look good there too.

I bought this lovely Cath Kidson tea towel this week on a whim - it is patriotic & stylish.  I bought these IKEA candles on my last visit there recently because it is a fresh berry scent & a lovely red colour too so perfect.

Some eagle eyed followers will think these look familiar - I bought them at vintage fair in Ludlow some time back & shared them with you; they are perfectly royal

 A cathedral, a carriage & a castle - perfect scenes on the spoons ...

I found my box of things from the last wedding - a flag

These crowns make a regular appearance at home - they are good fun ...

These vintage candle holders are good fun & show the traditional side to life here ...

My great great grandfather served as a guard at the palaces for 22 years during the 1830's

Our sideboard / dresser has its red, white & blue with the flags flying proudly ahead of the Royal Wedding - we will be watching,  taking in the details & just enjoying friendship & a fun event.

Cake stands are back in fashion

For a long time, no one would own up to having a cake stand, even less to using them as they were thought of as a bit old fashioned but thankfully they are back in fashion & very much in demand.

Cake stands elevate the simpliest cakes & food into something quite special.

I have several ones that are used often. Some are vintage finds while others are new or shabby chic which goes perfectly with our lifetyle.

Glass or crystal stands sit easily with just about everything, especially if it is a good height to add a visual effect to a table setting.

 I used a selection of cake stands on my sideboard to welcome cakes for the Royal Wedding Watch Party so that as guests arrived with their fabulous bakes, they were ready & waiting  ...

I love this vintage pressed glass stand that I use for little tartlets

This morning tea setting was for a ladies birthday tea for a friend; I used some vintage silver ones too so that the setting felt special. Such settings take time to get them just right - do you like it?



A silver stand holds a selection of hot scones as the weather turned rather cold ...

Even a basic date & banana bread looks special on a nice stand or two ...

Cake stands are of course de rigueur for birthdays as birthday cakes are special ♥
This is a fun set I used when the girls were younger ...

Now they are older, they now tend to opt for these ...

and cake stands don't always have to hold cakes, sometimes perfect fruits from a market stall just need displaying too or fruits & pancakes ....

Of course you can also use it to hold pink champagne for the ladies ♥

Using the coloured cutlery at home ....

So as you can see, coloured cutlery can be formal or informal but it is enjoyed by us & used often - isn't that the best use of something you enjoy?

Fabric to make coronation bunting ...

 Hi everyone, 

It is about 2 months before the coronation of our King & it will be a joyous time on our Isle because it will be the first time many of us have seen this event. As you know, no one does pomp & ceremony as well as we do ... 

I love such things & have hosted Royal Wedding Watch parties  & Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the 70th year of Queen Elizabeth 11 for friends at my home & it is a fun time, collective enjoyment. 

I saw this lovely fabric in a local fabric shop & just knew it would make the sweetest little bunting for my conservatory sideboard for the Coronation weekend of celebrations. I spied the blue & red fabrics with gold flecks & knew they were a perfect match for the fabric. 

Decisions, decisions, decisions -- what to make that will be small & fun? Traditional flag bunting or little square ones? A mixture of shapes? Single or double sided? I am inclined to single sided as they will hang on the shelves ...
